Twitter and Location

So Twitter still has not gone into production with its geolocation feature in status messages, but they have been busy.

They just announced a new trends feature that utilizes location so that you can see hot topics on Twitter within specific areas. As Twitter grows, splicing and dicing the info is going to get increasingly interesting and location should be a great filter. Here is an article from TechCrunch summarizing the idea.

Here is also the raw API info from Twitter's developer site:

So what does this have to do with Clearwire and WiMAX?

Clearwire has enabled two APIs for integrating location into apps and web pages. We're offering this for free and would like to see many developers taking advantage of our location platform.

We've integrated into Google Gears with our JSON API, so any site or app integrated with Twitter APIs could easily call our location service along with Google's to get location.

We are also working with Google and the W3C location standard to embed WiMAX location more directly into browsers. We'll hopefully have more to say about that soon.
